YOUTH PROFESSIONAL KITCHEN: NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR SOCIAL BUSINESS”

With grant given within the framework of the UNDP’s “Youth Social Entrepreneurship Support” Program (September 2013) ARNO implemented the project “Youth Professional Kitchen-New technologies for social business”. The project was done in partnership with the State VET School for gastronomy, NGO “Youth
Can”, Municipality of Center and few private companies. ARNO designed the project upon inspiration the job demand of chefs vs.the poor reputation of the gastronomy students in our society (Jamie Oliver and his “Fifteen” too).
The project is first in the country to promote social entrepreneurship to innovatively reduce youth unemployment.

The project promotes Social Entrepreneurship through the use of IT for building sustainable youth communities: launched 2 websites and 2 mobile apps that upgrade the catering system used by the Hospitality School, thus creating a sustainable solution for investment in the students and the local economy (the school catering services provided by the school are a social business itself). * Through the web page and mobile app- mojketering.mk every citizen and entity can order catering from the Vocational School and through that support the youth community, their education and employment (catering income is reinvested in the students, and students themselves work on the catering orders). * Through the webpage http://www.coolinari.mk and RECEPTKO (Mobile App for recipes) the project promotes the culinary profession and serves like database for employers: youth recipes, youth chefs with CVs get exposure to the labor market.

As part of the project 20 students (chefs) from the Vocational School received training on basic business skills, an introduction to the social enterprise model, managing Social Media platforms, use of e-mail and professional correspondence, building CV and portfolios. The students also received professional creative photos for further use of self-promotion).

The project was also among the few recognized project that built capacity of the CSR practices within the private sector in Macedonia, and it received credit for building strong networks of supporters among sectors.
For this project ARNO won the Second Prize at the Social Impact Award 2015 and was
shortlisted at the European Youth Awards 2014. (The European Youth Award (EYA) is
a pan-European contest to motivate young people, social entrepreneurs and startups
to produce socially-valuable digital projects that address the goals defined by the Council of Europe and Europe 2020. It demonstrates their potential to create innovative solutions with Internet
and Mobile technology)
