Green Ideas

In 2015, ARNO started with implementation of a project entitled: “Philanthropy and sustainable development in Macedonia”. The project, which realization is supported by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (USA) is designed to ensure promotion of the concept of Philanthropy and CSR including the implementation of the Green Ideas Competition initiative in Macedonia.
Philanthropy for Green Ideas (PGI) is a Regional project of the Balkan Green Foundation supported by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s Western Balkans Program. It aims to stimulate and encourage innovation for green business ideas at the local level and explores the role of philanthropy in engaging local communities to generate green business ideas that utilize local resources and revitalize disappearing traditional production chains and community-based markets. Besides ARNO, being in charge for the National contest in Macedonia, the other partners in charge for administration of the National contests are: Partners Albania (Albania), Forum for Civic Initiatives (Kosovo), Fund for Active Citizenship (Monte Negro), the Trag Foundation (Serbia) and since 2017 Mozaik Foundation (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
ARNO is administering the National Contest for Green Ideas, since 2015 and is proud on the 4 winning ideas at the Regional Contest: First cooperative of organic consumers “Nasha dobra zemja” (in 2015) ;the initiative for reparation of old furniture that has grown into a small business “SPIN” run by a young architect Marta Mojsova (2016); green startup for edutainment “ECO ILLUSIONS” run by magician Kristian Shopov, and platform for sales and donation of leftover food ”FOOD FOR EVERYONE” by Jane Zaevski.
The contest works through structured and verified criteria through a process that ensure transparent selection of the winning ideas. Initiative to support green ideas nationally aims to reach out to the most marginalized rural areas and to inspire and encourage more communities, groups and/or individuals that have original and innovative ideas to start small, green businesses.
-Competitors are national winners from Western Balkans 6: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia (three from each country)
-An international independent jury assesses projects
-Four winners receive an award of up to $10,000 to implement their business ideas in whole or in part
-The two day competition takes place every July at a different location in the Western Balkans region
